My experience with the VA Healthcare System has been less than adequate. I am simply a number. I am a burden to the employees who wish to chit chat with each other. My PCP downgrades every bad test result or does not disclose the result to me at all. I am not expected to advocate for my own care or participate in decisions regarding my care. I am not valued as a Veteran or as a patient. Little effort is made to address my concerns and I am treated like I am the problem when I push the issue. Overall, my journey has been negative although I am hopeful that can change during the course of my illness. I personally feel that the VA would rather I die than actually treat me. Unfortunately I am not alone in my experience.
